I have two sons, which were the result of two joyful pregnancies and home births. I am therefore passionate about sharing my knowledge and insights with other women so that they too can enjoy this special time.
As a doula I support women during pregnancy, birth and the early weeks of motherhood. I have trained with the renowned Dr Michel Odent and Liliana Lammers and my special interest is in supporting women at home births.
I like to work with women as early as possible in their pregnancy so that we have time to build a strong and trusting relationship. This is important as it enables me to offer the most appropriate emotional and practical support at the time of the birth, and ensures the woman feels completely at ease, safe and empowered.
Doulas are not medically trained and therefore I do not make decisions or give medical advice. Instead I offer immense care and support and bring a calm confidence to the birth environment. Research has shown that labouring women with constant female support are less likely to have pain relief and medical intervention, and are more likely to have a physiological birth and positive experience.
Therefore, although it may seem that a doula does very little her presence can significantly affect the way a labour unfolds.
My package includes a free consultation, followed by 3 ante-natal sessions, being on-call from 38 weeks and 2 post-natal sessions. I tailor each session to the woman and happily incorporate a mixture of nutrition advice, yoga and reiki when appropriate.
